January 8, 2025 at 12:02 AM
A powerful earthquake struck Tibet and parts of Nepal, causing widespread devastation. The quake, with its epicenter in Tibet's Tingri county, was recorded at a magnitude of 6.8, resulting from the collision of tectonic plates. The disaster caused significant casualties, with at least 126 people dead and hundreds injured. Numerous aftershocks hindered rescue operations as thousands of workers navigated the rubble to save survivors. Mount Everest's scenic area was temporarily closed due to the tremors. The Chinese government deployed over 3,000 rescuers and allocated 100 million yuan for disaster relief, emphasizing efforts to resettle displaced residents and minimize further casualties.
